This Privacy Policy explains what information Pepe Diary ("the app", "we", "us") collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. It applies to the Pepe Diary iOS app and to our website at pepediary.app.
Pepe Diary helps you track your dog's daily routine — food, poop, mood, symptoms, and care — and optionally uses AI to surface patterns in that history. This policy is written to reflect exactly what the app does; there's no data collection here beyond what's needed to run these features.
When you first open the app, you create an account by signing in with Apple, Google, or email and password — this is required to use the app. Depending on how you sign in, we receive:

If you use the Insights feature, a summary of your pet's recent routine logs is sent to Google's Gemini AI (via the Firebase AI SDK's Gemini Developer API) to generate a plain-language health summary. The resulting summary is stored in your account so you can revisit it.
If you use Smart Import, the vet-history PDF you upload is sent to the same Gemini AI to draft clinical events (visits, exams, diagnoses) for you to review and confirm before anything is saved. The PDF is processed only for that request and is not stored by us — only the events you confirm are saved to your account.
We do not use this data to train AI models.
If you send us feedback, or vote on whether an AI-generated insight was helpful (thumbs up/down), we receive that message or vote, tied to your account ID, so we can review it and improve the app.
Subscriptions are handled by Apple's App Store and by RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. We receive your subscription status (active, expired, which plan) — RevenueCat and Apple handle your payment details directly; we never see your card information.
We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to catch and fix crashes. This includes anonymized/aggregated usage events (e.g. "an entry was logged," "the paywall was viewed") and, if the app crashes, a crash report containing device type, OS version, and the error that occurred. This data is not linked to your name or email.
Our website (pepediary.app, including this page) uses Google Analytics, via the same Firebase project as the app, to measure how the site is used and how well our advertising works. It records page views, which language you read the site in, which sections you scroll to, and clicks on the App Store button. To do this, Google Analytics stores cookies and similar identifiers in your browser, and receives your IP address (which Google Analytics truncates before storing), browser and device type, approximate location derived from that IP address, and the page or ad that referred you.
This is website measurement only: it is not connected to your Pepe Diary account, and it never involves your pet's data — you don't need an account to browse the site, and we don't link site visits to one. If we run ads, we may use this data in aggregate to measure and improve those campaigns, and to build audiences of site visitors for advertising. You can opt out as described in Section 4.
If you attach a photo to your pet's profile or a routine entry, we request access to your camera or photo library only at that moment, only to let you pick or take that photo.
The app stores a copy of your data locally on your device (for offline use) in addition to syncing it to our servers.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use your pet's health data for advertising.
We share information only with the service providers that make the app work, each acting under their own privacy commitments:

If you share a pet with another user (e.g. a family member), that person can see and edit the data for that shared pet.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Pepe Diary, our users, or others.
If you are in a jurisdiction that grants additional rights (such as the EU/UK GDPR or California's CCPA/CPRA), you may also have the right to request a copy of your data, correct inaccurate data, or object to certain processing. Contact us using the details below to exercise these rights.
We keep your account and pet data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete the associated data as described in Section 4. Diagnostic data (crash reports, aggregated analytics) may be retained for a limited period for debugging and product-improvement purposes, per our providers' standard retention windows.
Pepe Diary is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the app, you consent to this transfer.
We rely on industry-standard security practices provided by our infrastructure partners (Firebase security rules, encrypted transport) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by other reasonable means before the change takes effect.
